Kathua : In a shocking incident, the lawyers community from Kathua tried to prevent Crime Branch from filing charge sheet into the rape and murder case of 8 year old Muslim girl Asifa.
This shocking incident prompted former Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister to tweet and castigated even some news channels for ignoring the incident.
“Lawyers in #Kathua Jammu tried to stop the J&K Police Crime Branch from filing a charge sheet in the case of the rape & murder of an 8 yr old girl but some “news” channels are happier reporting outside a chola bhatura shop,” Omar Abdullah tweeted.
Reports said that additional policemen were sent to prevent the so-called upholders of law (lawyers).
Despite the chaos and confusion created by lawyers, Crime Branch successfully filed the charge sheet against the eight accused in barbaric rape and murder case of eight-year-old Asifa Banu in Kathua district in January this year.
The investigating agency has so far arrested eight accused persons including the mastermind Sanji Ram and his son Vishal Kumar, a police head constable, two SPOs and a sub-inspector of police in connection with the crime.
A top police official confirmed that they filed charge sheet against seven accused persons.
The charge sheet has been filed few days after DNA test confirmed that the victim was held captive inside a temple before being strangulated after rape. (CNS)
