Srinagar: A 2-day comprehensive dental camp, aimed at providing free dental care services, organized by Government Dental College in collaboration with University of Kashmir, concluded here on Thursday.
“The 2-day dental awareness camp was inaugurated by Professor Nilofer Khan vice chancellor university of Kashmir in presence of Prof Dr Ajaz Shah, Principal Government Dental college and Hospital Srinagar on 26 June 2024. The said awareness camp was continued for 2 days and catered the students and employees at university of Kashmir. The schools in vicinity and under University of Kashmir were also benefited with this camp initiated by the two institutions. This awareness camp is part of the ongoing commitment of the Department of Public Health Dentistry to promoting oral health awareness and improving access to dental care services for all,” reads a statement issued.
“This oral health awareness and treatment camp offered a range of services, including dental check-ups, cleaning of teeth, fillings and restorative procedures, and oral health education. A team of dentists, specialists, and dental hygienists from the Department of Public Health Dentistry Government Dental College headed by Dr Aasim Farooq Shah HOD and the team of doctors from health centre University of Kashmir provided their expertise to ensure that the highest quality of care is delivered to the patients. Coordinator university health centre Dr Khalid Nazir assured all possible support for the visiting team,” reads the statement.
In the inaugural speech Professor Nilofer Khan Vice chancellor university of Kashmir stated, as per the statement that the University administration is conscious about the well-being of its employees and the camp is yet another initiative in this direction.
During the inaugural speech the Vice chancellor pressed that oral health awareness is important as oral health is the most neglected part of health.
At the inaugural address Principal Government Dental college and Hospital Srinagar Professor Dr Ajaz Shah also addressed the gathering and said that we are thrilled to collaborate with the University of Kashmir to bring this essential service to the people. While addressing he also said that his institute shall continue to support the worthy cause of oral health awareness at the community level to educate from the grass root level.
The camp was equipped with state-of-the-art dental equipment and facilities, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. Department of public health dentistry Government Dental College organized this free and during the camp free medicine was provided to those in need.
Health education program sessions were carried out regarding oral health care and preventive measures for preventing oral health diseases. In these education sessions oral health care procedures like use of oral hygiene aids e.g tooth brushes were demonstrated using models and charts. School children from University Model School were among the schools benefited with this program.
At the closing ceremony Dr Khalid Nazir Coordinator university health centre and Dr Aasim Farooq Shah HOD department of public health dentistry Government Dental college and Hospital Srinagar briefed the newspersons about the activities of the awareness camp.
The medical officers Dr Suraya Jan, Dr Azhar Ahmed Wani and Dr Iqra Mehraj efficiently coordinated the activities of the awareness camp.
As per records the awareness camp which had started on 26 June 2024 at 9:30 am and concluded on 27 June 2024 4:00 pm benefited more than 412 patients from the University campus and approximately 145 school children from University Model School. (GNS)
