Srinagar: Patients visiting valley’s tertiary Chest Disease Hospital here are facing a huge inconvenience as machinery required to carry out two basic procedures – EBUS & Bronchoscopy essential to detect lung cancers’ – is lying in a defunct state for the last several months.

People in the knowhow of things told that patients visiting the hospital are facing huge inconvenience as the essential procedures aren’t being conducted amid the defunct state of the required machinery.

Bronchoscopy, among the primary techniques’ to assess the patients, is a procedure used to diagnose different types of lung disorders, including infections from bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, or tuberculosis.and more importantly the lung cancers’.

EBUS on the other hand, is an advanced procedure which also is vital to detect the lung cancers’ also comes handy to the doctors to diagnose many lung diseases especially TB etc

As learnt, the CD Hospital at Buchwara in Durgjan here, is among the only few hospitals in whole Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, where the EBUS and Bronchoscopy techniques are done on patients.

If reports are to be believed, the EBUS procedure hasn’t been conducted for almost six months now and the Bronchoscopy procedure has also gone out of reach of patients, due to apathy of the officials concerned.

The hospital which would otherwise conduct the essential procedures on a daily basis that too on nominal charges has left the patients on the mercy of few private hospitals, which in turn charge them (patients) with hefty sums’.

In an attempt to seek the version of hospital authorities, reached out to at least three officials. All the three officials however failed to answer satisfactorily, even as one among them said that they are trying to sort out the issues very soon. “We have escalated the issues and it may take us some time, maybe a week or more to get it resolved,” said an official.

Even before we could have asked why it was that the hospital was taking this much time to resolve the basic issues, thereby jeopardising the health and safety of patients, the officials dropped the call. (GNS)
