‘Srinagar-Leh road thrown open for vehicles carrying essential supplies’

Srinagar :  Amid Covid-19 scare, a fleet of oil tankers proceeded to Leh region from Kashmir on Saturday.


The 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway is likely to open very soon. As per the reports, this strategic road has been cleared of snow, and work is going on in full swing to open this Highway for travelers as soon as possible. And, if things go as planned, the highway will be thrown open to traffic very soon.


Reports said that the highway was thrown open for carrying essential services today. An official told KNT that 18 tankers carrying fuel were allowed to proceed towards Leh from Sonamarg under proper escort in presence of SSP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal.


An official from Border Roads Organization said that Srinagar-Leh road has been thrown away for vehicles carrying essential supplies while the road is still closed for passenger vehicles.


The highway was closed in December last year after heavy snowfall on Zojila Pass, Sonamarg, Zero Point, and Meenmarg areas of the road. (KNT)
