Srinagar : More than a decade has passed; the authorities have failed to make the ‘Haba Khatoon’ Maternity and Children hospital Noorbagh functional.

The work on the hospital was started twelve years ago and over 17 crore rupees have been spent on the construction of the building,

The locals said the delay in making the hospital operational is hitting the patient-care, leaving them with no option but to either visit the Lal Ded or JV Medical College, or any private hospital.

It is unfortunate that the health department has failed to make the maternity hospital functional, they said.

Situated at Noorbagh Eidgah, the foundation stone of the hospital was laid by then MLA Eidgah in the year 2011.

“Currently, the PHC Noorbagh functions in the building constructed as a maternity hospital,” a top health official told  adding, “It is a mega project and needs 250 specialised doctors and other staff to make it functional.”

“In the ground floor of the PHC, three doctors, laboratory, ultrasound, X-ray, TB unit and other units are functional,” he said. The ZMO office is also there.

The official also said the recruitment process in this regard has been taken up and it will be completed very soon to make the hospital functional.

The hospital will have a capacity of at least 50 beds, he said, adding that the main entrance is very narrow and the government is working on an approach road as well—(KNO)
