Srinagar: On a solemn Thursday afternoon, the 10th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) stationed at Batamaloo, Srinagar, held a heartfelt ceremony to commemorate Martyr Day, honoring the sacrifice of Jawan Reyaz Ahmad Gojar Khatana. The brave soldier lost his life on March 20, 2019, during intense cross-border firing at Village Kundali Barjala Jabda in the Uri sector of Baramulla District, while defending the nation’s borders.
The event, held at the 10 Bn SSB headquarters, brought together officers, jawans, and the martyr’s family members in a poignant tribute. The ceremony began with a wreath-laying ritual, where Commandant Sh. Rohitashwa, alongside senior officers and jawans, paid their respects to the fallen hero. The martyr’s wife, Rabiya Begum, and other grieving family members joined in laying wreaths, their presence a somber reminder of the personal cost of valor. A minute of silence followed, as those gathered reflected on Reyaz Ahmad’s ultimate sacrifice and the gratitude owed by the nation.
In his address to the gathering, Commandant Sh. Rohitashwa spoke passionately about the courage and dedication of SSB personnel who safeguard India’s borders and ensure internal security under challenging conditions. “The nation stands forever indebted to heroes like Reyaz Ahmad Gojar Khatana, whose bravery inspires us all. Their sacrifices strengthen our resolve to protect this country,” he said. He further assured unwavering support to the families of martyrs, emphasizing that their loss is shared by the entire nation.
As a gesture of gratitude, the martyr’s family was honored with tokens of appreciation, acknowledging their resilience and the vital role they play in supporting the armed forces. Rabiya Begum, visibly moved, stood alongside her family as the SSB community expressed solidarity and respect.
The ceremony concluded with a pledge by all present to uphold the legacy of the nation’s martyrs. Officers and jawans reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of soldiers like Reyaz Ahmad are etched into the collective memory of the country, never to be forgotten.
