Death rumour of youth in police custody triggers protest in Parimpora

SRINAGAR : Protests erupted in Parimpora area of Srinagar on Tuesday after rumours of a local youth’s death in police custody started doing rounds on social networking sites.

Rumours spread that Tawseef Ahmad who was arrested by police during a shootout at Zukura last week has died during interrogation in police custody.

Soon after locals including youth came out on roads at Parimpora and started protesting. They also blocked vehicular movement on the Highway at Parimpora.

However, police officials told PTK that Tawseef is safe and alive in police custody. “This is a mischief done by some trouble mongers. We have called his parents and they will meet him shortly at police station. We will take strict action against the rumor mongers,” he said.
