Shopian, Kulgam shuts to mourn killing of militants killing


SRINAGAR : A complete shutdown was observed in south Kashmir’s Shopian district and Kulgam to mourn the killings of three local militants.

The three militants, Zahid Ahmad, Irfan Ahmad and Asif Ahmad were killed in a gunfight with government forces at Gattipora Kellar on Monday.

Eyewitness said that Zahid Ahmad Mir, of Ganowpora Shopian who was among three killed in yesterday’s gunfight, was laid to rest amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans at his ancestral village.

Thousands of people also attended the funeral prayers of Irfan Ahmad Ganai at Heff village. Report said that Irfan was the eleventh militant of the village killed at the hands of forces. Irfan was laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans at his ancestral graveyard.

Third militant killed in Keller gunfight, Asif Ahmad Paul of Kathawhalan was also laid to rest after thousands attended his funeral prayers despite being a hilly area and far flung village. Asif was active since two and a half months.
