Clashes erupt in Sopore after Eid prayers


SRINAGAR: Clashes broke out between youth and government forces in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday.

As soon as the Eid prayers concluded at Markazi Jamia Masjid Sopore youth held protest demonstrations at main bazaar area of the town and tried to march towards the main chowk.

They were chanting pro-Islam and pro-freedom slogans.

Later, the protesters clashed with police and paramilitary forces deployed in strength at main chowk area.

While the youth pelted the forces with stones and bricks, the latter responded by lobbing teargas shells and pellets.
