Militants appeared in funerals, offered gun salute
SRINAGAR: Tens of thousands of people on Saturday participated in the funeral prayers of slain Lashkar-e-Toiba militants Junaid Mattoo of Khudwani village of Qaimoh tehsil of Anantnag , Adil Mushtaq Mir of Frestbal area of Pampore in Pulwama district and Nasir Wani of Heff village of Shopian district, who were killed in a gunfight with forces in Arwani village.
Funeral of commander Junaid Mattoo were held at his ancestral village in Khudwani of Qaimoh tehsil of Anantnag district. At least four funerals were held for Mattoo at a local Eidgah as mourners continued to pour in from various parts of south Kashmir.
Reports said at least five militants of both Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen appeared in the funeral of slain district commander Junaid Mattoo in Khudwani village and offered a gun salute. Mourners jostled to touch the faces of militants as they raised their guns to offer a gun salute to the fallen District Kulgam commander of the LeT.
Thousands of people also participated in the funeral prayers of slain Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Adil Mushtaq Mir at his ancestral village in Frestbal area of Pampore.
The funeral prayers were held at a local ground where mourners braving heat and fasting continued to pour in from various parts of south Kashmir. Reports said that at least five militants appeared in the funeral, which was attended by thousands of people, and offered a gun-salute.
Meanwhile at least ten militants appeared in the funeral of slain Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Nasir Wani in Heff village and offered a gun salute. First, two militants appeared in the funeral which was attended by thousands of people. Later, more than five militants appeared at the scene and offered a gun- salute. The funeral prayers were held at least six times.
Pertinently two civilians were also killed in firing by forces on protesters marching towards the encounter site.
