Pregnant woman’s death sparks protest in Banihal; doctor suspended

JAMMU: Scores of people stages protest on Srinagar- Jammu national highway against the death of a pregnant woman due to absence of doctor in a hospital at Banihal.
The protesters blocked the national highway demanding the stern action against the hospital authorities and concerned doctors. According to PTK correspondent, a pregnant woman, Zubida Begum (30), wife of Mushtaq Ahmad Magray, resident of Ashar village of Banihal died due to medical negligence at the hospital.
The family members of the victim allege that she died as the doctors were not available in the hospital. They said that the lady had labour pains and was rushed to the hospital, where she died unattended.
Following her death, the relatives staged protest amid slogans demanding action against absent doctors.
Meanwhile the authorities have put a doctor under suspension after her death for alleged medical negligence at CHC Banihal on Thursday. “As per the directions of worthy Chief Medical Officer Ramban, Dr. Rubeena, M.O. CHC Banihal is hereby suspended in view of the pending enquiry regarding death of a lady who was brought to hospital on 2-2-17 in the morning for delivery and enquiry will be completed within five days,” said an order.
